Issa Samb was born in Dakar in 1945. He was one of the founding members of the seminal Laboratoire Agit'Art in 1973. Samb is an internationally recognised artist known for his groundbreaking inter-disciplinary work that encompasses sculpture, performance, painting and theatre.〔"Issa Samb is considered a total artist. His practice ranges from acting, for both theatre and cinema, to writing (poetry, essays, novels), installing, performing, painting and sculpting... yet his work is unclassifiable."
